The Day May Break
20년 전부터 아프리카의 야생동물을 촬영해오던 작가는 환경 파괴의 가속화를 목격하며 더 직접적인 해결책이 필요하다고 느꼈다. 이러한 파괴가 계속되면 지구의 생태적, 문명적 붕괴가 오게 될 것이며, 이는 머지 않은 미래이기 때문이다.
‘자연을 파괴하면 궁극적으로 우리 자신도 파괴된다.’는 의미를 담은 “The Day May Break” 시리즈는 기후변화와 기후 붕괴라는 큰 위기를 다루고 있다.
사진 속에서는 기후변화로 보금자리와 생계를 빼앗긴 사람들과 야생동물 밀매와 서식지가 파괴된 야생동물이 함께 자리하고 있으며 작품 내 자욱하게 깔린 안개는 빠르게 소멸되는 자연을 의미한다.
그러나 이들은 황폐해진 자연 속에서도 살아남았고, 우리는 이를 통해 희망과 가능성을 만날 수 있다.
The Day May Break
The photographer, who has been capturing wildlife in Africa for the past 20 years, witnessed the acceleration of environmental destruction and felt the need for more direct solutions. They realized that if this destruction continues, it will lead to ecological and civilizational collapse on Earth, and this is an imminent future.
The “The Day May Break” series, which carries the meaning “ultimately, we destroy ourselves by destroying nature,” deals with the major crises of climate change and ecological collapse.
In the photos, people who have lost their homes and livelihoods due to climate change coexist with wildlife affected by habitat destruction and wildlife trafficking. The dense fog depicted in the artwork symbolizes the rapidly disappearing nature.
However, they have survived even in the desolate nature, and through them, we can find hope and possibility
SINK / RISE
기후변화로 인한 해수면 상승에 직접적인 영향을 받은 남태평양 섬 주민들에 초점을 맞추고 있다. 피지섬 연안의 바다에서 수중 촬영된 작품 속 사람들은 해수면 상승으로 인해 앞으로 수십 년 동안 집과 땅, 삶의 터전을 잃게 될 수많은 사람의 모습을 대변한다. 작품에서 등장하는 모든 인물과 사물들은 수중에서 촬영됐다.
SINK / RISE
The focus is on the residents of the South Pacific islands directly affected by sea-level rise due to climate change. In the artworks captured underwater in the sea off the coast of Fiji, people represent the countless individuals who may lose their homes, land, and livelihoods for decades to come due to rising sea levels. All the figures and objects depicted in the artworks were captured underwater.
