독일의 노르트라인베스트팔렌주 에르켈렌츠 인근 탄광 마을인 뤼체라트에서는 환경운동가들이 주민들의 이주를 반대하고, 수백만 톤의 갈탄 채굴에 반대하는 시위를 벌이고 있다.
이 마을은 기후 위기에 대항하는 상징이 되었으며, 환경운동가들은 자발적으로 조직되어 나무 위에 집을 지었고, 시위 참가자들에게 기부금을 통해 식사를 제공했다. 독일 정부는 석탄 사용 폐지를 결정했지만, 우크라이나 전쟁과 에너지 위기로 인해 석탄 활용에 우선순위를 뒀다. 이에 정부와 에너지 회사는 뤼체라트 마을의 갈탄 채굴을 허용하고, 환경운동가들은 이를 반대하고 있다. 환경운동가들은 산업화 이전 대비 지구 평균기온 상승 폭 1.5°C 목표를 위협한다고 주장하며, 에너지 회사의 요새로 변하는 마을의 모습을 사진 에세이에 담고 있다.
Eviction
In the vicinity of the coal mining town of Lützerath near Niederrhein-Westfalen, Germany, environmental activists are opposing the relocation of residents and organizing protests against the extraction of millions of tons of lignite. This town has become a symbol of resistance against the climate crisis, with activists spontaneously organizing themselves to build houses on trees and provide meals to protesters through donations. Although the German government has decided to phase out coal use, priorities have shifted towards coal utilization due to the war in Ukraine and energy crises. As a result, the government and energy companies have allowed coal mining in the town of Lützerath, while environmental activists oppose it. They argue that it threatens the target of limiting the increase in the Earth’s average temperature to 1.5°C compared to pre-industrial levels and depict the transformation of the town into a fortress of energy companies in a photo essay.
